The Lean Enterprise and the Supply Chain examines the integration of procurement, production planning, manufacturing and distribution. The responsiveness and predictability of lean manufacturing processes are essential to integrated supply chain management. A before-and-after manufacturing simulation will be used to contrast lean manufacturing with traditional batch and queue production. The course will also present rate-based planning (a model for integrating the planning and scheduling processes in procurement, manufacturing, and distribution) and methods for evaluating the capabilities of suppliers.
